one week

Baby is due in one week. I'm trying not to count the days because I know there's very little chance he'll actually be born on his due date, but we're getting so close! I am very excited.

rock-a-bye baby

Ryan's dad surprised us and built a cradle for the baby - the first Dahle grandson. He made it from a 100 year old apple tree. I like how it's naturally all different colors. And an awesome thing about it is that it comes apart really easily so it can be stored flat for the next baby. Smart.

giant cinnamon buns

Some of you may not know this, but Ryan is really good in the kitchen! He loves cooking and baking, and his dream is to own a bakery. So, if you ever have anything yummy or delicious from our house, chances are that Ryan made it - I'm not near as good at baking as he is. The thing that drives me crazy is that he doesn't use a recipe. He'll look at one occasionally, but only uses it as a reference, and then changes it up as he likes.

The other night, I was wanting something gooey and sweet, so I asked him to make cinnamon buns and this is what I got. (Yes, that is an 8 X 10 pan fitting only three buns!)

The master baker.

We shared one, and were barely able to finish it. Mmmmm...

a blessing in disguise?

Sunday, Ryan and I were heading to the hospital to preregister and go for the birth center tour. We were joking around, talking about what we would do if our car broke down on the way to the hospital for the real thing. Haha, that would be ridiculous, eh? This car is old, but has never given us any problems before. And then at that very moment - our car actually broke down! You've got to be kidding! Who should we call? Oh, wait - we can't call anyone, because we both forgot our cell phones. What do we do? Surely someone will stop. No, they just keep driving when they see a guy and his wife, who happens to be nine months pregnant, walking away from a broken down car on the side of the highway. Keep walking. No gas stations. Cars just driving by.

Miracle! A tow truck comes along, Ryan waves, and the guy actually stops and takes two minutes to hook up our car. No garages open on Sunday, so he takes us and our car home. How much do we owe you, nice Japanese man? Thinking this is probably going to be $200 or more. No, just $40 and call it good. Ryan gives him $60. Thank you, thank you!

Now we only have one working vehicle. Ryan's brother-in-law, who is smart and good with cars, came over to look at the car that night - which was so nice of him. They think they can fix it. But, even then, would I feel all that safe driving it? Probably not. A new car? I don't think that will happen anytime soon. We'll figure it out and make do with what we have.

Not very fun, but here's a look at the bright side... It really is a blessing that this happened when it did and not while I was by myself, or on the way to the hospital to actually have the baby! Oh, I am SO grateful Ryan was there and that I wasn't in labor or anything crazy like that! Plus, the timing of the tow truck man was amazing, and that he saved us some money was also awesome! Seriously, a miracle. So, I really can't be that mad because in this dumb situation we've been blessed, and it'll all work out just fine in the end.

only a month to go

Now that I've hit the nine month mark, everything is starting to feel very real. Sometime in the upcoming weeks, I will actually have to go to the hospital, have a baby, and then bring that baby home to my house and take care of him forever more. I'm so excited (and a little nervous, too - I'm not going to lie).

Some girls in my ward had a baby shower for me last night. It was so nice of them! I really had fun, and it was great to get to know some of the women in my ward. Although I have enjoyed my callings, being in primary and YW has made me feel kind of isolated, so last night was great! All the talk about having babies sure did make me feel like the time is just going to fly between now and when the baby comes!

I think we are as ready as we're going to be for our little guy to arrive. I better go pack my hospital bag!
