Christmas eve

We’re having a Washington Christmas this year. Since we’ll be spending all of Christmas day at Ryan’s parents’ house tomorrow, we decided to have our own little family Christmas today. So, Gavin and I got up this morning and made blueberry cornmeal pancakes with orange butter and bacon, chocolate milk, and egg nog. It was super yummy, but I think Gavin liked it the most. Here’s proof:

After breakfast, we opened presents. Gavin was so fun to watch. He got excited about ripping, crinkling, and trying to eat the paper, he played with the boxes, and loved his new books and toys. He was most excited about his storybook and finger puppets from Grammy Tia and Grampy Leron. He also loved the storybook they gave him. The boy loves books!

We spent the rest of the day cleaning the house and cooking up a storm for Christmas Eve supper. We had all the Dahles (minus Chad, Kate and the girls) over at our house. Ryan was the master chef, and I was his sous chef. On the menu: tomato bisque with mozzarella and basil, scrumptious molasses glazed pork with apple butter, mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, and asiago herb rolls. So good. We didn’t end up having dessert…it got too late for the kids, plus we had other treats (pretzel yummies and muddy buddies) so we’ll save the cheesecakes for tomorrow. It was a good day. Merry Christmas to all!
